Sunday splendour: 26 June 2011

Ah, my friends! Just a quickie tonight after a long and topsy-turvy week. Thanks all so much for your gorgeous words of encouragement and support - it's meant the world to me. So without further ado, let's look at some of my week's highlights.

*I feasted upon* a scrumptious chocolate éclair from my new local French café, Jean-Pascal Patisserie.  Here are the little beauties, all lined up waiting for me. Wasn’t I good to just stop at one?
I promise to do a post on this divine little oasis soon .

* I (re)discovered* this pretty and stylish personalised calligraphy stamp from Etsy shop Primele.
I spotted it months ago and might now treat myself to one – I’m not planning on changing my address for a very long time now! Isn’t it just divine?

* I enjoyed* attending sweet Emma’s garage sale yesterday prior to her leaving Hobart with Stu and their 3 sweet girls to head off on their adventure to live in country NSW. Whilst I am desperately sad to see Emma go as she’s one of the kindest and wisest people I’ve ever met, I am happy that she feels this is the right move for their family. We came home bearing some of her gorgeous and eclectic style and most excitingly for me, her desk for *my room of my own*! It’s in pieces at the moment (hence the lack of photo) but it should be the perfect fit. I’m *inching* closer to tackling my room!

* I created* (well, to be truthful, I made this before The Big Move) this present for a gorgeous Hobart friend who had her birthday recently. I thought the word apt as that’s what her presence gives me whenever we meet.
Her favourite colours are raspberry red with a pop of green so this should have hit the spot!

* I read this* fabulous tutorial by clever Jutta at Kootut Murut on how to pretty up some old glass jars. Isn’t it nifty? Not to mention easy, quick and inexpensive.
I’m definitely going to give this one a try once we’re settled in. Any guesses for which colours I’ll pick?

* I watched* Joshie start his new school and was so delighted at the end of his first day to hear that it has been his “best day ever”. It was the same story every day. I am *so proud* of him for fitting in so well. We were just staggered to discover that on Friday, he received a certificate from the principal in Assembly in front of the whole school congratulating him on settling in so beautifully. And India and Sammy settled into their new daycare just as well – India for two days a week and Sammy for one (now my ‘Magic Mondays’ have become my ‘Fabulous Fridays’!). It reminded me that children are often a lot more resilient than we give them credit for.

This week should see us almost complete The Great Unpack. Now I’m getting quotations from the electrician, the curtain and blind man, the tree removalist and the cabinetmaker for some little improvements to Planet Baby HQ! I also plan to spend more time around at my parents’ house. I have the feeling time may be ‘of the essence’ now as we lawyers say. Have a glorious week, you lovely Planetarians.

  11. What a glorious weekend it sounds like you had - that eclair looks divine and how fun to have gone to Emma's garage sale, can't wait to see her desk in your home. I was thinking of attempting a similar project with those painted jars/bottles recently as I am after a tumbler for our ensuite in a beautiful aqua/sea green shade like the one on the right in the photo above but wasn't sure if jars would work - your post has convinced me otherwise and I can't wait to try this out now!! So glad your three pixies are settling so well into school/daycare x

  21. Ah, ladies, I'm sorry to make you drool with those eclairs ☺. Hmm, I might have to try making them in my lovely new kitchen! Thanks, too, for all your kind comments about my Dad. And to the locals, I look forward to having you around once we're settled.

Oh, Amanda, do let me know how you go with the jar. It's time I started writing a creative 'to do' list - I have so many things I'd like to do that I need to prioritise!

And Emma, the desk is still in pieces, Lovely - I think it's a 'weekend job'! I can't wait to have *my* room organised to show you. J x

  22. Dear Jane,

Glad to hear that everybody is settling in well. One should never say no to pastry - it gives bad karma or something like that. In any case you should absolutely get the address stamp.
