My bloggy rehab weekend: Part 2

Good evening, PB friends, all 153 of you! Now I’m going to make this a quickie so I can a. get to bed earlier as per bloggy rehab rules and b. be more succinct as requested by some regulars ☺. After my restful break at Salamanca Market, the pixies returned with Mr PB, full of stories. A visit to the School Fair at my old primary school soon followed. It’s also where Joshie will be starting Prep next year so he was most excited to check it out. He and India enjoyed pony rides around the oval.

It was the strangest sensation spotting people I’d been to school or Brownies with – now they’re all responsible parents towing youngsters around! The lucky dip was a huge hit and they scored a handful of dinosaur and fairy books for a few dollars – they were happy campers! Here they are, decorating their own biscuits.

I then had a delightful dinner with a dozen old school friends at a restaurant on the River Derwent’s Edge. I hadn’t seen one of them since we left school in 1988! It was fascinating to see each other again after such a long break. Some of them had lived interstate for years before returning to Hobart, like me, whilst others have never left. Most of us have recently turned 40 and all are mothers. The latter proved the great leveller and ensured we all had plenty in common even although our children ranged in age from 17 to 1! There’s nothing like old friends who have been with you through your early years, don’t you think? Long-buried memories floated to the surface, providing us with hours of entertainment.

On Sunday we got stuck into the garden which required a lot of TLC due to its recent neglect. Mr PB fired up the lawn mower and I then found myself weeding. For the first time in my life. Terribly mundane and boring, I know, but also strangely satisfying. After my week of bloggy frustration, it was rewarding to do some physical (as opposed to mental) work and see a tangible result.

Here are the pixies planting our new vegie garden. They love gardening! Now we just have to keep watering and waiting, something which the pixies find difficult. And now to bed!

  12. Jane, I'm so glad to hear that people are actually coming back to Tassie, not just going in the other direction. It's one of the best places on earth, so let's hope they can retain all their 'Returnees'! Lovely to see your gorgeous little cherubs, what a joy they must be to you & Mr. PB.

  13. I can't wor out which school it is - sounds like a nice fair though. I have to admit that I quick like weeding - I find it very relaxing and it is a bit of time-out. I have a tonne of it to do this weekend. The vegie patch is a great thing for your little ones. Don't children love being in the garden :)

  14. Cate, I actually only remembered about it at 6.52 pm and it was planned for 7 pm! So I really had no time to worry about it. It was such a pleasant surprise to see how well we all got on with each other. At school, most of us mixed in different circles - it's amazing what maturity we've developed in the intervening 22 years!

Yes, Brownies and Girl Guides were my thing, Felicity. Mr PB was a scout. I think we might investigate these options when the pixies are a bit older.

Hello, Anna! It's so lovely to see you here. Welcome back to Blogland ☺.

Now, Laura, I am trying to cut back! I'm slipping this comment in before I turn the pixies' light off. Ooh, do get your husband to write a guest post - it's fun!

Great to see you here, Martha - you're welcome on this planet any time.

It's a really interesting phenomenon to observe, Millie, the way us Generation Xers are returning to Tasmania to raise our young families. It was only one way traffic once we finished Uni.

Sarah, your garden is just inspirational. Finding the time is our challenge but you're right, the pixies really are drawn to it. All healthy. Right - now it's lights out time! J x

  17. Why, thanks, Cornflake, on both counts. It's great to see you here - you were one of my very first followers.

Yes, I want some of those prints. I just have to get organised and photograph the books for her as well as write lists with all the authors and titles. It's such an original and striking idea. I love how personalised you can make it. J x
