Some Saturday soul food: Bob Moawad

Bonjour, mes amies! I’m so thrilled so many of you enjoyed reading my last post about meeting Nikki Gemmell – I had no idea she was so popular. I can't wait to start reading ‘With My Body’! This week’s inspiration comes from an American motivator and published author, Bob Moawad, who has worked with many national leaders, Fortune 500 companies and athletes. I’m tempted to buy his book ‘Whatever It Takes: A Journey Into the Heart of Human Achievement (Gift of Inspirations)’ if this ripper of a quotation is representative of what he has to offer!
The best day of your life is the one on which you decide your life is your own.
No apologies or excuses.
No one to lean on, rely on, or blame.
The gift is yours - it is an amazing journey - and you alone are responsible for the quality of it.
This is the day your life really begins.
Wow! It’s taken me the greater part of my 41 years to work this one out. I feel like the young girl here who looks like she’s had her epiphany too!

It distils the essence of so many other life lessons I’ve learned the hard way such as not to let people put you down or allow yourself to act as the victim.

It’s just a brilliant affirmation of the self and all the power we innately hold within us.

So tell me, do you think Bob is talking sense? Or is he being a little trite and over-simplistic? I can’t wait to read your thoughts.

  1. Oh Jane! You've hit the nail on the head yet again and resonated with me through your soul food! My wise Mama and sister-in-law's have told me that it is a wonderful feeling the day you realise that you're actually loving the life you're in... and not worrying an iota about what anybody else thinks or is doing. Just pure, honest contentment in oneself. No explanations, no beg your pardon's. As a result, I now long for this day to come. I can feel it getting a little closer, year after year. It is comforting to know that you're there now, at 41 :o) What an awe inspiring aim for me. Power to you my lovely friend and thank you xoxo

  2. As usual, I completely agree.
Nodding away like a fool over here.
It all begins and ends with ourselves - and within ourselves.
    Thanks, once again.

  4. hi Jane

Loving any motivational & business book - I find there is always something to take from them.

I have now learned that some you take with a matter of thought and some you can take with a OMG changing of your life right there and then moment.

    wonderful post jane thank you

    Have a great day,

  6. It makes sense to me and as I head for 40 I think I am starting to "get it."
What is this about Nikki Gemmell? Where can I find your post on this Jane, as I missed it.
I love her books and have just finished reading "With My Body."
    An interesting read!!

  7. Yes I agree, but I'm going to be a stick in the mud and say perhaps it's a little over simplistic. Depending on the person there can be so much holding them back from putting themselves in control. You can have an epiphany, sure, but that doesn't mean you will be able to make sweeping changes straight away, or even have the strength or confidence to step up some days.
Right clearly I need to read Bob's book, I am seriously lacking some motivation!

  8. Love these words Jane. They would look excellent in a nice print and frame to inspire us don't you think? I think he is making total sense. N x

  9. So agree, the early 40s are definately the time we get it, the last couple of years its been like I have had a rebirth of sorts, life make sense and my life is now and what I make of it!!

  10. My reality came around the same age Jane, it’s not easy to acknowledge sometimes but it does make you realize that happiness comes from within. I love having the freedom to choose how I live and never allowing others to bring me down because of their negativity towards life. We only get one chance at it, so why not live it your way. Have a great week my friend.

    Always Wendy

  11. Hmmmmm (as usual!)
I do like a thoughtful post. I feel like I am on the cusp of discovering myself (also at 41)...I just wish there were more hours in the day to allow me to give it more consideration. And therein lies the whole problem!

  12. I think he is being a little over simplistic..but think the concept of being responsible for your own decisions is worthy and often we take hold of one concept at a time and that builds on to other worthy thoughts that we have built into our lives in the past, bringing balance.

  13. Ah, I love the cuts of your jibs, ladies! Just to clarify, I'm still very much a WIP on this point but at least I finally *get it*. That's been a mammoth step for me.

@Julie You'll get there, Sweetheart. I have absolute faith in you.

@A-M I hope it survived The Great Crash!

@Laney, you're no stick in the mud - robust discussion is encouraged here. I hear you about needing the strength and courage - I've been there, painfully, and have no wish to return.

And @Carol, as usual you speak wisdom, my friend. I love your take on life.
