Celebrating Aung San Suu Kyi's release - walk on, Sweet Lady

Hello Lovelies! I know, I don't usually post twice a day but I can't resist joining in the celebrations for the release of the ever courageous and gracious Aung San Suu Kyi after seven long years of house arrest in Burma. In total, she's spent 15 out of the last 21 years under house arrest.
Talk about an inspiration!
This article summarises what she's endured in that time. It's just extraordinary, isn't it?

U2's song 'Walk On' was written for her. I've sung this anthem at the top of my lungs so many times over those long years, always hoping she would be freed one day. Now she has. I only hope she can 'stay safe' as the song suggests now that she's free again. Walk on, Sweet Lady.

  2. I celebrate too - Aung San Suu!! Her experiences and life as a hostage in her own home are a constant reminder of my life of freedom, and choice. A reminder to always be courageous, honest and fair. A reminder that as much as I love the nice fluffy stuff at times with house reno's and revamps, it's all STUFF, and inconsequential in the big scheme of things. Here's hoping Su gets a real chance, and that Burma is on watch by the world. I follow Get Up and hope other bloggers do too. Great post. xx

  3. And I do hope her freedom lasts this time, as this isn't the first time she's been released. Let's hope this inspirational woman can bring real freedom to her country.

  6. Agreed, ladies, on all counts. Like so many others, I fear for her safety. It's not as if the regime has disappeared, after all. She has an enormous task and fight ahead. I hope she finally gets to see her sons soon. J x
