An ode to mothers

Hello, lovely friends, after all the detail you've been absorbing in the last little series of posts, I thought I'd like to share something short and sweet with you. When I was staying with Sam in the Mother Baby Unit, a sweet fellow mum lent me this book.
Found here
It contained the most beautiful prayer which resonated deeply with me:
God be with the mother. As she carried her child, may she carry her soul.
As her child was born, may she give birth and life and form to her own, higher truth.
As she nourished and protected her child, may she nourish and protect her inner life and her independence.
For her soul shall be her most painful birth, her most difficult child and the dearest sister to her other children.
Wow! I really get that. That's where I'm at while living on PB. It's a long road to walk to find myself again but I'm enjoying the view.  Thanks for walking with me!

Jane

  1. I absolutely loved being a mummy to young children & babies, but now, as they start high school (gulp) i have such a wonderful view of the time, love & fun i put into them when they were younger - they are happy, fearless & still love a cuddle. It makes my heart sing!! You might like to flash forward a few years for a moment to picture it, embrace it, then you'll love them even more as you nurture their development into little humans to let loose on the world. 2. Why, thanks, Posie for that lovely insight - I really appreciate it. Stuck 'in the trenches' as I am with three under five and severe PND, I do find it hard to project ahead and imagine what it might be like when they're a bit older and not as dependent on me. Getting through each day is enough of a challenge for me, most of the time. Anyway, one day at a time...I'm so pleased parenting has been such a positive thing for you. J x

  3. You are an inspiration Jane. Through your challenging journey you have been able to help so many by just sharing it. I remember often thinking 'there is no light at the end of this tunnel' and the journey seemed so endless. Trust me... it all goes in the blink of an eye. You will have to strain your brain trying to remember the tiny details which make up your whole existence at present. I would hold firm to Posie's flash forward. Imagine them coming home from Uni, giving you a big hug, thanking you for all you put into their lives when they were little. My big boy is almost 13. Seems like yesterday that the days at home were so long and we would wait at the park for Daddy's car to come into sight at the end of a long day. It gets easier and easier, it really does. Promise. A-M xx
