Let's start at the very beginning

That's a very good place to start! Ah, serenity. The eldest pixie, Joshua, is at Kinder. India, the middle pixie, is at daycare. And Sam, my youngest pixie, is asleep. The poor darling is cutting three teeth and has a cold so he is miserable. It should be just long enough for him to have a quick nap before we have to collect the other two. That gives me a short window in which to write this before we return home and the witching hours begin.

My head is buzzing with ideas to write about. I think this blog has been in my head for a long time. Thanks to the kind souls who have offered me blogging tips this week. I am really grateful as there is so much to learn and absorb. Every day I'm learning more terminology and finding widgets (great word), gadgets, buttons, links and websites. Now I'm learning how to load photos and use hyperlinks. So please bear with me while I find my feet!

So let's start with a little about my family. My husband and I grew up in picturesque Hobart on the island of Tasmania, a state of Australia. The week after we married, we moved to live in Sydney. After 11 years in that glorious city, we returned to Hobart to bring up the children and spend more time with family.

My husband, Mr PB, works in a chocolate factory, surely every child's dream (he hired the DVD of 'Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory' to show the children but they were a little too young to understand!). He is the sole breadwinner at this point in the children's lives, a role he shoulders manfully. I am a solicitor but have not been back to paid work since India was born, given Samuel followed not long after. We have had three children in under four years so we have made the decision that I will be a stay at home mum for the foreseeable future.

Life on a single income has its moments but we firmly believe in the value of my spending so much time with the children in their formative years. We are adherents of the Jesuit motto "Give me a child until he is seven and I will give you the man" which Wikipedia tells me is based on a quotation by Francis Xavier. Whilst it seems like we have been on PB for a long time, in the greater scheme of things, I suppose it really is only a short time. They don't stay little for long nowadays. Childhood seemed to last longer when we were growing up in the 1970s.

I must wake up my sleeping angel now. I'll be back soon!

Jane

  1. I think it's a great thing you have both done, deciding to be a stay at home mum for the kids and also moving closer to family too (although it would have been cool if you'd stayed in Sydney as we could have hung out). It's nice to find out more about you Jane, thanks for sharing!

  2. Thanks, Janette. I republished this by accident (woops - still trying to fix up the LinkWithin photo problem) but I'm pleased you saw it. I think I'll be home with them for a while longer until at least I am over my PND. It would really have been lovely to meet in Sydney. Oh well, if I hadn't moved to Hobart, I probably wouldn't have started this blog so at least we met this way! J x

  3. like you we have opted to raise our family with one stay at home parent full time - we have shared this over the years - currently i am working fulltime and mic is the stay at home - I can get jealous of this as I miss my boys but earning an income is a fact of life ... I am going to think of something else to do that frees me up more and gives me more creativity :) the mix is hard to make work :) best le

  4. That's interesting about the sharing, Le. I haven't been in *paid* work as a solicitor for the past 3 years which has been really odd for me. I've been working up to doing that post ☺. J x
