Our Monopoly game: 'Collect $200 salary as you pass Go'

Source
Oh, my friends! Sorry about going incommunicado like that. I had hoped to post before The Big Move started on Friday but our internet connection cut off too early for me (I'm using my parents' computer now). Yes, after you've all waited so patiently and supportively, encouraging me over the last few draining weeks to keep my pecker up, we've finally been able to pass 'Go' in Planet Baby's Monopoly game. Woo hoo! Here's a quick recap of the events of the past few days.

Our Hobart house

After ferrying carloads of boxes to the house over the past week, The Big Move took place on Friday afternoon. We had removalists move all our furniture into the new house, much to the pixies' excitement. Getting everything organised before the dark winter night fell was a huge *challenge*. We managed to get all the pixies' beds and cot constructed (missing the odd bolt here and there), scavenged some dinner for them and found mismatching pyjamas for them (Sammy wore Joshie's enormous ones to bed!).

India moved to her new room and the boys giggled in their shared room. But India wouldn't settle as she'd never slept apart from Joshie so we ended up moving her into their room for the night.

Now comes the most important bit - we bought takeaway and toasted the start of this new chapter of our lives with a bottle of crisp Tasmanian Jansz sparkling wine! I thought of you all as we did so, knowing you'd have loved to be drinking with us ☺.

We hadn't set up our bed so I slept on our mattress on the floor (in my clothes - we couldn't  find ours!) while Mr PB slept on the couch in case the pixies had a disturbed night.

Yesterday, we ferried more boxes to the new house and had brilliant help with lifting and organising from my wonderful sister and brother-in-law. Their little boy relished playing with his cousins. Our old neighbour and his friend helped Mr PB remove the fencing and gate we had installed to keep Quicksilver Sam off the road (remember that?) and took them to our new house. My aunt even started gardening, trimming our new-found raspberry canes and discovering a fabulous strawberry patch.

Today has involved more sorting, unpacking, moving furniture, finding lost things, losing things (like keys and mobile phones (hmm, I think little Quicksilver was the culprit most times!) and collecting our last things from the rental house as well as some gardening. Tomorrow we'll return to do the final clean and gardening.

The rental house

Tenants have been found! They hope to move in later in the week, once we have conducted the final inspection with the managing agent to get our bond back. You can imagine what a huge relief this is for us. One less mortgage to pay ☺.

The Sydney apartment

Our tenants moved out on Thursday. I just have to find out whether they passed the property inspection with our managing agent. On Thursday, we'll settle on its sale, meaning yes, you guessed it, one less mortgage to pay!

So, there you have it - finally a conclusion to this long-running saga. I'm not sure how long it will take to get the internet connected to our new home so I 'am just going outside and may be some time' as they say in the classics! I'll be back once I've done some nesting, all ready to show you photos of Planet Baby's new abode. So, are you excited? Sorry to be a tease - I miss you all dreadfully.

PS 'Sunday Splendour' will return once life has settled down.

  9. Congratulations, that is a whole lot of stress (good stress) that you've got sorted all in a short period. Wishing you well in the move & unpacking to the last small box & you'll be done for a very long time. What a great lot of support you have there. I'm lucky, our next/ last move will be managed by the Army, yahoo, they pack & unpack perfectly & for once, we're not moving 4500km but about 80km away, should be very speedy indeedy. Ah, no stress & like you, hopefully a smooth sale of an investment property & we could be mortgage free, imagine that!!?? Ahhh, drool, love Posie

  10. How wonderful Jane, I have only come in on the tail end of this saga, but boy, it's been a fascinating one. You should feel proud of all these hurdles you've cleared... and now to enjoy that beautiful home!
You did very well with 'making do' on your first night... I always think back to that first night of moving into our place, feels like the whole world has been tipped on it's head and that you'll never restore order again... but you always do! Enjoy the ride setting it all up Jane xo

  30. Wow! Thanks everyone for your gorgeous, heart-warming comments. I'm emailing from my parents' computer as we won't be online for about a week -it's killing me!

I'm missing you all dreadfully but the settling in is going well. I even indulged in a spot of rose pruning today. I've never done it before and have no idea if I've done the right thing. Still, it was an amazing feeling to tend to my own garden!

I can't wait to show you some sneak peeks! J x
